GSSets

GSSets comprise fifteen files with raw data for 82 of the most used GSS variables (1972-1994) in SPSS Export File format. With the Zeta Data program ToCHIP you can use these data to create hundreds of CHIP data sets.

The data are divided into five time periods:

• 1972-1975 (72-73-74-75)

• 1976-1980 (76-77-78-80)

• 1982-1985 (82-83-84-85)

• 1986-1990 (86-88-89-90)

• 1991-1994 (91-92-93-94)

The years were chosen to generate approximately 6000 cases per period and to divide the surveys into the early and late 1970s and 1980s and early 1990s. With four exceptions (LIBMIL, LIBRAC, SPKMIL, SPKRAC in 72-75) all variables appear in all four periods – though not necessarily in each survey.

Each of the 15 files contains 29 "independent" variables, which may be organized as follows:
